whitebuffalo OMAEZAKI PRO 2026 - Day 2 Report

Competition Resumes at 11:15 a.m. After a Morning Hold

On Thursday, October 29, the whitebuffalo OMAEZAKI PRO 2026 continued into its second day at Omaezaki Long Beach in Shizuoka, Japan.

The swell from the previous day had weakened, and with high tide in the early morning, the waves were not breaking consistently. As a result, the competition was put on hold while officials monitored the conditions. After waiting until 11:00 a.m. to check the waves, the heats finally got underway at 11:15 a.m.

The waves were small, around knee to waist high, but the offshore wind kept the ocean surface clean. Compared to the previous day, when the west wind affected the conditions, there were more waves offering opportunities for maneuvers. Although the size was limited, finding the right sections to perform maneuvers was the key to scoring well.

Hyuga Fujitani caught a wave with good potential, connected his turns with a slash, and released his tail at the end section before finishing with a big lip maneuver. His performance earned 8.17 points, the highest single-wave score of the event so far. He also received excellent marks for speed, power, and flow.

In the Women's Pro Junior division, Riri Yamamoto, who was scheduled to compete in the final heat of the day, scored 6.33 points, recording the highest women's single-wave score of the day.

Around the middle of her heat, she spotted a wave running toward the right. She connected her first turn with a slash before attacking the wave with a strong second maneuver, earning a high score.

The day's competition included the Round of 56 in the Men's Pro Junior division, followed by the Round of 24 in the Women's Pro Junior division. With these heats completed, competition came to an end for Day 2.

During the morning hold, a beach cleanup was held with local kindergarten children and professional surfers taking part. It gave the competitors, who had been focused on the competition, a chance to take a break and enjoy a relaxed moment together.

A larger swell is expected tomorrow, Friday, October 30. The first call for Day 3 is scheduled for 6:30 a.m., with all divisions on standby, including the Men's and Women's QS2000 and both Pro Junior divisions.
